When the NFL Playoffs began, there were a handful of former Virginia Tech football players who were beginning the march for the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Now that we have officially entered game week, both teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs have landed in New Orleans.
For the second straight year, a former Hokies cornerback is playing in the big game and looking to win a second straight championship.
Virginia Tech has one former player playing in Super Bowl LIX
When the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills, 32-29, in the AFC Championship Game nine days ago to punch their ticket to Super Bowl LIX, former Virginia Tech CB Chamarri Conner played a big role in the victory.
He was tied for a team-high with nine tackles against the Bills and he forced a fumble. You could say that he played his best against Buffalo in the last two seasons in both the regular season and the postseason. It’s the second straight year that Kansas City knocked out the Bills en route to the Super Bowl.
Kansas City will be looking to become three-time Super Bowl champs, something that not even the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick New England Patriots were not able to do. Conner is looking to go back-to-back.
Conner has made the smooth transition into the Kansas City secondary under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and is a key contributor. He has played a big part the last couple of seasons in what the Chiefs have accomplished and is getting better in each game. He will, however, have his hands full against Philadelphia and QB Jalen Hurts who has a number of talented wide receivers and playmakers.
The country and football world are sick of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs winning, but for one night, Virginia Tech fans will be pulling for them so a former Hokie can get another ring.
