When the Kansas City Chiefs selected former Virginia Tech safety Charmarri Conner in the fourth round and 119th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Hokies standout was put in the best possible win-now situation.
He joined the Chiefs with coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes and now he has a golden opportunity to be part of history. Following Kansas City's, 32-29, win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night in the AFC Championship Game, the Chiefs are heading back to the Super Bowl and looking for a three-peat in two weeks in New Orleans against the Philadelphia Eagles, which routed the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon.
Chamarri Conner plays big part in Kansas City beating Buffalo
Conner has slid right into the Kansas City secondary and has been a huge addition and against the Bills, he played a big part in the defense making enough plays against Josh Allen and the Buffalo offense. Conner finished tied with Drue Tranquil with a team-high nine tackles, but five of those nine for Conner were solo and he also forced a fumble.
This is the second straight year the Conner has come up huge for the Chiefs in the postseason against Allen and the Bills. Last season, he had eight tackles and a forced fumble in an AFC Divisional Round Game in New York that Kansas City won, 27-24, to advance to the AFC title game where they outlasted the Baltimore Ravens before knocking off the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl in overtime.
Despite. going 15-2 in the regular season and winning two playoff games at home, Conner and the Chiefs will be up against it vs. Philadelphia in New Orleans, but the former Virginia Tech star has an opportunity to part of a three-peat.
