Recruiting in the Class of 2026 has been a struggle for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry. Entering Friday, he had only 10 commitments, as they had come up short on commitments multiple times, often losing out to in-state rival Virginia or powerhouse programs from other conferences.

There was one recruit in the class who was still undecided about his college decision, Andrew Rogers from Greensboro, North Carolina. A highly-touted prospect in the class who had reportedly nearly two dozen offers, he did not release his final schools, but he made his commitment on Friday, and it was a huge recruiting win for Pry and the Hokies.

Three-star edge Andrew Rogers commits to Virginia Tech

When this recruiting cycle began, one thing was clear: Rogers, who has a four-star rating from 247Sports, caught a lot of eyes, which is evident by the number of scholarships he was offered. Midlands Region Analyst Gabe Brooks of 247Sports wrote this about Rogers, which paints a promising future in Blacksburg. He picked Virginia Tech over Tennessee, Florida State, Michigan State, and several others. He had 76 tackles last fall, 34 for a loss, 23 sacks, and three forced fumbles, which are impressive numbers.

"Tall, long edge rusher with a frame that should continue to add mass. Flashes encouraging pursuit ability and closing speed. Shows some bend and dip ability relative to size. Can improve pad level consistency and hand violence. Projects as a Power Five-caliber edge defender with developmental potential."

Rogers, who is the 44th-ranked edge in his class according to 247Sports and the 22nd-ranked prospect in North Carolina, is the third commit in the Class of 2026 along the defensive line, joining Kamden Gillespie of Morresville, North Carolina, and Virginia Beach native Kamren Johnson.
