The transfer portal giveth, and it can also take it. That was the case for the Virginia Tech football team this portal cycle. The Hokies have added some players through the portal to offset the subtractions Brent Pry had.

Two former Virginia Tech players who were in the portal, Braylon Johnson and Bob Schick, both found new homes for the 2025 season. One will be staying in the ACC and will make a visit to Blacksburg with his new team next fall, while another is headed off to the Big 12 and committing just days after entering the portal.

Two former Virginia Tech players commit to new schools in the transfer portal

Johnson hit the portal after playing in Virginia Tech’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl loss to Minnesota at Bank of America Stadium in January, where he made three tackles. He will remain in the ACC and is committed to Wake Forest and its first-year coach, Jake Dickert. The Demon Deacons with visit the Hokies on Oct. 4, with the Richmond native returning to his home state to play against his former team.

On the offensive side of the ball, Virginia Tech’s offensive line suffered a huge loss when Bob Schick entered the portal last week. The lone holdover from last year’s team, Schick entered to find a new home in the portal, and you knew it wouldn’t take long for him to find a new team for 2025.

Schick is making the jump to the Big 12 after committing to Oklahoma State. He will be a big, experienced addition to the Cowboys' offensive line after allowing just one sack in two years for the Hokies, which is a major feat after all the struggles Tech’s offensive line has had the past two seasons. Virginia Tech’s loss is Oklahoma State’s gain.
