Unlike last season with the winter transfer portal, the Virginia Tech football team is seeing some huge exits out of Blacksburg this time. Several starters with eligibility are leaving and some are either taking or making some visits with some strong programs.

Some of the players that have entered the portal are surprising and some of the decisions that were made between going into the portal or declaring for the NFL Draft were surprising. Two Hokies who announced this week that they are leaving through the portal are planning visits to a pair of SEC schools.

Two Virginia Tech transfers making SEC visits

Two Virginia Tech players who entered the portal are going to take visits to SEC schools. Offensive lineman Xavier Chaplin and cornerback Mansoor Delane are going to visit two schools in the South.

Chaplin took a visit to Auburn Saturday and this portal entry is one that really hurts the Hokies. He was the most consistent offensive lineman this season for Tech and battled through a number of injuries to get back on the field all season long. This is a loss that will be felt next season without a doubt.

Delane is reportedly setting up a visit to LSU and head coach Brian Kelly. He made a curious decision to enter the portal rather than declare for the NFL Draft, but staying in college might be the better decision and raise his draft stock more for 2026, something that would happen at LSU and in the SEC. If it's not the Tigers, there are going to be several other suitors.

Delane had an up-and-down year for the Hokies in 2024 as there were times when he was able to defend passes well, but there were also times when he was beaten and in some cases beaten badly. It's not surprising to see either player get interest from SEC schools.
