This weekend is a big weekend in Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech football team. The Hokies will be hosting Georgia Tech for Homecoming and there will also be a number of key recruits on campus as well.

While a majority of the recruits will be high school recruits, there will be one member of a Big Ten school who is already in the transfer portal for the 2025 season.

Virginia Tech to host Indiana transfer Donaven McCulley vs. Georgia Tech

In late September, McCulley entered the transfer portal following his third game of the season with Indiana, and this season in very limited action, he had two catches for 21 yards, but last season he made a big impact for the Hoosiers with 644 receiving yards on 48 receptions and six touchdowns as Indiana went 3-9.

According to Adam Friedman of Rivals.com, McCulley had originally scheduled a trip to Michigan this weekend to see the Wolverines play Michigan State, but that was canceled for him to be in Blacksburg to see the Hokies battle the Yellow Jackets.

What does this mean for the future? Wide receiver is a position that Virginia Tech will end up losing some key pieces following the season. They do have Ayden Greene eligible to return as well as some younger receivers, but bringing in a veteran would be big for 2025 for offensive Tyler Bowen and head coach Brent Pry.

This is not the first time that McCulley is in the transfer portal as he entered last Nov. 27 and withdrew two weeks later to return to Indiana, but it's clear he has fallen down their depth chart under first-year coach Curt Cignetti. If there was one area that Pry and his staff were able to make a dent it is wide receiver in the portal and this would be a big addition for next season.
