Virginia Tech football's recruiting heater ends with priority RB heading to the Big 10

Jamal Rule was someone whom the Hokies wanted, but the Class of 2026 running back picked the Cornhuskers over the Hokies and two other schools.

After sustaining two key de-commitments from the Class of 2026, things have been picking up in terms of recruiting for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry. Since Carnell Warren, the second de-commit, two weeks ago, after Peyton Falzone de-committed last November, the Hokies have picked up four commitments in 10 days.

Most of the commitments have come on the defensive side of the ball for the Hokies this cycle, with offensive lineman Buddy Wegdam, committing last week. Both de-commitments, Warren at wide receiver and Falzone, a quarterback, were on the offensive side of the ball, which means Pry and his staff have some work to do to make some additions on that side of the ball.

This past weekend was the last weekend of visits before the summer, and the next time visits are allowed, it'll be when the 2025 season kicks off in August. Until then, there are a number of players who will make their decisions before their senior year kicks off, but one recruit who was in Blacksburg a couple of weeks ago announced his decision on Monday night.

Jamal Rule picks Nebraska over Virginia Tech and two other schools

Three-star running back Jamal Rule from Charlotte, North Carolina, took a visit to Virginia Tech over the weekend with nearly a dozen other recruits. Recently on his X page, Rule named his Final Four schools with Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Michigan State, and Nebraska making the cut. He announced that he'll be attending Nebraska over the Hokies, Orange, and Spartans.

As a junior last fall, Rule rushed for over 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns and was named to the 2024 All-State Team in North Carolina. He did that on 134 carries and averaged 9.2 yards per carry. This was not a surprising recruiting loss for Virginia Tech, as all predictions had Rule going to Nebraska.
