Ohio State closed the curtain on the 2024 college football season with a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame in the National Championship Game Monday night in Atlanta. The new 12-team College Football Playoff should be considered a success after two teams ranked in the lower half advanced to the title game.
We are eight-plus months away from the 2025 season kicking off with some big Week 1 matchups. One of those matchups includes Virginia Tech, which will begin the season with a brutal non-conference game in Atlanta against South Carolina. Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks will enter the game as a Top 25 team and should be somewhere between 10-15 if we’re being honest.
As is the case when one season ends, it’s never too early to take a look ahead to the next season. One area where some people turn their attention is with betting lines. Believe it or not, some lines for games in the opening weekend have come out and according to DraftKings and FanDuel, the Hokies are a big underdog against South Carolina.
According to DraftKings, Virginia Tech is a 10.5-point underdog, while FanDuel has them as an 8.5-underdog. After the way the 2024 seasons went for both teams and with the Gamecocks getting some key retainment while the Hokies roster has a big turnover, neither line is surprising.
Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry has added a lot of players through the transfer portal and hired a new offensive line coach and strength and conditioning coordinator, but he is still looking for a defensive coordinator.
This is the first of two tough SEC matchups for the Hokies who will return to Blacksburg in Week 2 to face Vanderbilt. Pry is facing a big season ahead of him and it begins with two tough games for the Hokies.
