Following a 23-21 upset at North Carolina State last Saturday night, the Virginia Tech football team will get back to work, looking ahead to this weekend's home game against Wake Forest. Inteirm head coach Philip Montgomery met with the media on Tuesday and gave some key updates to a roster that is in flux.
Montgomery said that defensive ends Keyshawn Burgos and Eastern Michigan transfer James Djonkam were no longer part of the team. It was reported last week that both players were removed from the Hokies' roster. Montgomery wouldn't get into why they are gone, calling it "part of the process the Hokeis are going through right now, according to Andy Bitter of Tech Sideline.
Key defensive players dealing with injuries
Linebacker Caleb Woodson and cornerback Quentin Reddish were missing in Virginia Tech's last two games against Wofford and NC State. Were both players injured, or were they part of a group of players who were making decisions about their futures?

As it turned out, they're injured, and Montgomery didn't say whether or not either would be available against the Demon Deacons. Both players are key to Sam Siefkes' defense, and getting one or both back would be a huge boost to their units.
Wake Forest coach avoids calling out officials
Jake Dickert is in his first season at Wake Forest after replacing Dave Clawson, who came over from Washington State. He had the Demon Deacons less than two minutes away from upsetting Georgia Tech at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets appeared to jump offside on a third down, which would have given Wake Forest a first down and likely run out the clock. Instead, they had to punt, and Georgia Tech tied the game at 23-23 before winning it in overtime. ACC officials have been under scrutiny for the last couple of years, but Dicket took the high road when asked about it.
"There's one uncontrollable thing that lost us the game, and a ton of controllable things that lost us the game. We've got to focus on those,'' said Dickert.
Virginia Tech fans know all too well how Wake Forest fans feel after last seasons debacle in Miami.
