Even though it might be a slow month in terms of action on the field and courts, there is plenty of news on and off of them. That's where we'll fire up the latest Virginia Tech Football News.

ACC football coach steps aside

Three years ago after Virginia Tech fired Justin Fuente, there were several names thrown around in terms of replacing him, including Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson. That never happened as the school decided to go with Penn State defensive coordinator Brent Pry and on Monday, Clawson made a stunning decision.

Clawson stepped aside as the head coach of the Demon Deacons after a season in which they failed to become bowl-eligible for the second straight season. Virginia Tech did not play Wake Forest this season after rolling to a win over them at home in 2023.

Two defensive lineman make All-American list

For the first time in 25 years, the Hokies have had a pair of defensive linemen named to the AP All-American team. This season Antwaun-Powell Ryland and Aeneas Peebels were both named after the two transfers put together strong seasons.

Both players were named to the third team. Powell-Ryland, who came to Blacksburg from Florida two years ago, had two four-sack games this season against Old Dominion and Boston College. Peebles, who came from Duke, solidified a spot at tackle and was also named to the third team. The last two Tech teammates to accomplish this feat were Corey Moore and John Engelberger in 1999.

Chance Fitzgerald to visit 2025 Hokies opponent

Virginia Tech wide receiver Chance Fitzgerald entered the transfer portal over the weekend and it didn't take the Tennessee native long to set up a visit. According to Steve Wiltfong of On3, Fitzgerald is scheduled to visit Vanderbilt on Tuesday. Yes, the same program that beat the Hokies in the season-opener this season and will. visit Blacksburg in 2025.

Jaylin Lane declares for NFL Draft

It's hard to believe with all the NFL talent the Hokies had this season that they're 6-6. Monday, wide receiver Jaylin Lane declared for the draft and won't play in the bowl game against Minnesota next month.
