With spring practice in full swing, so is recruiting for the Virginia Tech football team. This weekend, Brent Pry and his staff will host a three-star safety from Shelby, N.C. who listed Virginia Tech in his final eight Friday morning.
D’Various Surratt listed his top eight with Charlotte, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Sam Houston State, Wake Forest, and Wisconsin made the cut along with the Hokies. He is scheduled to be on campus this weekend for a visit.

Virginia Tech makes Top 8 for D’Various Surratt
According to 247Sports, Surratt will be on campus in late June, just over a week before he’ll make his decision on July 1. The 6-foot-0, 185-pound Crest High School rising senior also has visits scheduled to North Carolina (April 11), NC State (June 6), and Duke (June 13), one week before making an official visit to Virginia Tech.
Currently in the Class of 2026, Virginia Tech has a commitment from wide receiver Carnell Warren from Bluffton, S.C. back in January. According to On3, Surratt has a three-star ranking and they have NC State as the leader for him with Virginia Tech second, followed by Duke third, and North Carolina fourth.
This should be an interesting recruitment for not only Virginia Tech, but the other schools involved. Since Bill Belichick took over at UNC back in December, he has done well on the recruiting trail and you can bet that he’ll be heard from in Surratt’s recruiting before all is said and done.
Virginia Tech lost some talent in the secondary this season between the NFL Draft and the transfer portal and will need to add talent for the future there. Surratt is someone who is coveted and with four other ACC schools in the mix, this is a recruiting battle that the Hokies need to focus on and win.
