Over the last couple of seasons, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry has had some very good luck with adding transfer portal additions to his roster. This off-season, the third-year coach will have to be active again in the transfer portal, and this season, he'll have a lot more needs to fill.

Between players using up all of their eligibility and key players that have entered the transfer portal, Pry and his staff are going to have to go deep into the portal to field a roster for 2025. In doing that, they have to do it knowing that 2024 was a huge failure on multiple levels and that may explain some of the starters entering the portal over the last couple of days.

You name, it's a position of need for the Hokies for next season. They have already been active, as is every other program across the country, in looking to address needs and reaching out to players. One position of need is in the secondary and Virginia Tech is exploring what would be a very good addition for next season.

Virginia Tech interested in Marshall transfer

The secondary is one area in which the Hokies have already lost multiple players, Mose Phillips, and Jalen Stroman, to the transfer portal. Secondary help is needed and the Hokies have shown a lot of interest in Marshall transfer Jacobie Henderson.

Pry and his staff got an up-close look at Henderson this season when the Thundering Hurd visited Lane Stadium on Sept. 7 in the Hokies, 31-14, win over Marshall. A redshirt sophomore, he has 72 career tackles, three tackles for a loss, two interceptions, and 14 passes defended. Against the Hokies, he had four tackles and he had eight at James Madison on Nov. 30 in a 35-33 double-overtime victory over the Dukes.

The 5-foot-11, 191-pound Henderson had four tackles in last Saturday night's Sun Belt Championship Game win over Louisiana-Monroe, 31-3. Henderson is a talented player and one that would fit right in with the Hokies and is someone that they need to push to get in the portal.
