One position that is raw and looking for experience for the Virginia Tech football team is wide receiver. The Hokies lost their top four receivers last season: Ali Jennings, Da’Quan Felton, Jaylin Lane, and Stephen Gosnell. Replacing them won’t be easy, to say the least.
Ayden Greene is back for the Hokies, and Tennessee transfer Cameron Seldon has turned some heads in spring practice. However, there was a late addition to the transfer portal this week when Marshall wide receiver Christian Fitzpatrick was granted another year of eligibility by the NCAA. Several schools have reached out to him, including Virginia Tech, where he was on Friday for a visit.
Marshall transfer wide receiver Christian Fitzpatrick visited Virginia Tech on Friday
One team that got an up-close-and-personal look at Fitzpatrick last season was the Hokies. In Week 2, when the Thundering Hurd visited Virginia Tech, he had four catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. He made an unreal catch along the sideline that opened a ton of eyes.
Last fall, for Marshall, he caught 34 passes for 576 yards and six touchdowns, while averaging 16.9 a reception. All you have to do is see the one-handed catch he made against the Hokies to realize that he is a playmaker who would be a big target for the Hokies’ QBs in 2025.

In a turn of events the NCAA has granted Marshall WR Christian Fitzpatrick (@Cfitz_1 ) another year of eligibility.
The 6’4 215 LBs Wide Receiver had 34 catches for 576 yards & 6 TD las season.
Oh yeah this insane catch too 🤯👇🏻pic.twitter.com/gO9VR4GzBp
According to reports, he took a visit to Oklahoma State earlier this week, and he has also heard from Louisville, Colorado, Baylor, and Arkansas. Expect that list to grow as we go deeper into the spring if he doesn’t make a decision soon.
If he comes to Virginia Tech, he would move right up the depth chart for new offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery, and you have to think that Fontel Mines will spend a lot of time with him as well.
