Every month is big for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry, but this month of June might be his biggest during his tenure in Blacksburg. One of the biggest recruiting months in college football, the madness began this weekend with a slew of recruits on campus.

After making strides in 2023 and getting a ton of retention and transfer portal additions, expectations were high for the Hokies entering 2024, but it turned into a huge swing and a miss for Pry and Virginia Tech. Another 6-6 regular season that again ended with a win over Virginia on Thanksgiving Weekend, which was needed to become bowl-eligible. Not exactly what anyone was expecting.

Now with a lot of eyes on him this season and some rather big coaching changes over the offseason, the 2025 season is a big one for Pry, and it begins this weekend and over the next four weeks with recruiting. Despite everything surrounding the program, one college football writer left the Hokies off a list that maybe they should have been on.

Virginia Tech football left off list of ACC schools who need a big June

John Garcia, Jr. of Rivals.com listed the Top 5 ACC schools that need to have a big June in terms of recruiting. Of course, the schools listed are schools you would consider the top programs in the conference, with Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Florida State the Top 5.

It's easy to see why Virginia Tech was left off the list, but if you don't think this is a big recruiting cycle for Pry, then think again. He is entering a make-or-break season as another 6-6 season or worse could spell the end of his time in charge of the Hokies, but if he's going to turn things around this year, it begins with taking some big strides in recruiting.

Is Virginia Tech going to be able to compete with the top programs in the ACC in terms of getting four and five-star recruits to commit? It's going to be difficult, but this cycle is just as big for Pry as it is for any coach in the ACC.
