Two weeks ago, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry knew that his offensive line and running game were going to be challenged by Stanford. The Hokies passed that test and now after a bye, they will face another tough defense on Thursday night at Lane Stadium against Boston College.

The Hokies did a good job of running the ball against the Cardinal in a 31-7 victory on Oct. 5. Stanford entered the game as the ACC's top rushing defense, but Virginia Tech and their offensive line were up to the challenge in what was a must-win to enter their off weekend at 3-3.

Boston College's defense is a big test for Virginia Tech

Monday, Brent Pry had a lot of good things to say about the Boston College defense ahead of this week's game. I know, you're thinking, "It's coach speak,'' and blah, blah, blah, but he's not wrong. The stats back it up.

Coming into to Blacksburg, BC allowing just 17.2 points a game, eight touchdowns, and two rushing touchdowns, the fewest in the conference. They have ACC wins over Florida State and Virginia and in an even odd scheduling quirk, this will be their third of four ACC road games this season. They have yet to play a home conference game.

Their non-conference schedule included games with Missouri and Michigan State aside from their two ACC games. They beat the Seminoles on Labor Day Weekend, then dropped a 24-14 decision at Virginia on Oct. 5.

Ideally, the Hokies would love to control the ball against the Eagles and keep quarterback Thomas Castellanos off the field with his talented skill players. To do that, offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen will need to figure out a way to get the running game going with Bhayshul Tuten. As we have seen this season, when Tuten is rolling, so is Virginia Tech's offense.

Virginia Tech still has its ACC goals all in front of them after splitting their first two conference games and BC will be a big challenge, but in the end, it will come down to whether or not the Hokies offense will be able to figure out the Eagles defense or not.
