On Monday night the ACC released the schedules for all football teams with dates. As far as Virginia Tech is concerned, it’s going to be another year of the Hokies playing their four non-conference games before kicking off conference play. There were some quick takeaways from the ACC schedule.
Virginia Tech doesn’t play any back-to-back road games in ACC games and their weeknight game this year at home is against California in late October. Also, their two byes are just a month apart and they play seven games before they even get their first one. Their second one is in November, but it’s going to be needed with a brutal final month of football in terms of opponents on the schedule.
Virginia Tech faces a brutal gauntlet schedule in November
One huge takeaway from the schedule is the brutal end to the season. In November alone, the Hokies host Louisville on Nov. 1, travel to Florida State on Nov. 15, host Miami on Nov. 22, and close out the season at Virginia Thanksgiving Weekend. After four tough games and looking at the overall schedule, becoming bowl-eligible would be a massive feat within itself for Brent Pry’s team.

Louisville smoked the Hokies two years ago, Florida State has a miserable 2024 season that saw them finish 2-10, Miami is Virginia Tech’s yearly member on the schedule and the two teams played a classic last September in South Florida. Of course, the regular season final is at Virginia this season and something tells me that this game will again come down to bowl-eligibility for the Hokies for a third straight season. I mean, there is no other way for the season to play out, is there?
Let’s not overlook the beginning of the schedule in August and September with South Carolina and Vanderbilt being the first two games. Both games have a different look now than they did a year ago. Regardless, the last four games are as tough as any team has, and with a new-look roster and first-year coaches on staff, Virginia Tech is facing a brutal end to the season on the field that anyone could have imagined.
