On Saturday afternoon, the Virginia Tech football team will play its annual Spring Game inside Lane Stadium at 3 o’clock. This will be an interesting game this season, considering all the turnover the program has had with the transfer portal and players going into the NFL Draft.

One player who missed four of the final five games last season was quarterback Kyron Drones. He was present for most of the spring practices, but on Saturday afternoon, the school sent out a release that Drones was going to miss the remainder of the spring practices and Saturday’s game due to a medical procedure. After Tuesday’s workout, Pry met with media and shed a little light on what his QB1 is going through.

It wasn’t anything earth-shattering, but it was an update that provided a little light on what to expect for a timetable following his medical procedure. Pry declined multiple times to go into great details of what his singal caller was dealign with, but he did offer a timetable on when the Baylor transfer might be able to return to normal activities.

"I think possibly early June, but by mid-June, he should be rocking and rolling and 100 percent,’’ said Pry.

That would be great news if it were to come true. Was what he’s dealing with now related to any of his injuries last season, whether it was an MCL injury, turf toe, or a stress fracture? Pry wouldn’t answer that question, but it is something that was bothering Drones enough to get another opinion and to figure out how to get his quarterback ready for the season opener on Aug. 31 against South Carolina in Atlanta.

"I said let’s reach out, let’s ask the experts what could we do to get this guy where he could be 100% for a whole season," the fourth-year head coach said.

If Virginia Tech is going to have any type of success that they’re hoping for, a healthy Drones would go a long way into making that happen. Pop Watson has proved that he is more than capable of sliding in and running the offense, but Drones, without a question, is a huge key for the Hokies in 2025, and having him as healthy as possible is a must.
