It’s no secret that the 2025 season for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry is a big one that could very well determine his future in Blacksburg. He will get a jump on what is a vital season over the next month, when several high-profile recruits will make visits ahead of key decisions this summer and fall.

One area that Pry knew he needed to make waves in when he was hired to replace Justin Fuente at Virginia Tech was in recruiting. Too many schools, including Penn State, where Pry was before coming to Blacksburg, were coming into the Commonwealth and plucking the top talent that the state had to offer.

With spring practices over and camp still more than two months away, one of the big months in recruiting is upon us, beginning this upcoming weekend when Class of 2026 quarterback Oscar Rios is expected to be on campus. Just where this recruitment ends up going remains to be seen, but it highlights what a big month Pry and his staff are facing in visits for the future of the program.

There is no way to put it other than this is a big month in recruiting. Offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery, defensive coordinator Sam Siefkes, and offensive line coach Matt Moore have their work cut out for them, along with Pry and everyone else. It feels like the program is in a dangerous spot after a disappointing Year 3 under Pry, which saw a much different offseason this winter compared to last offseason.

Not only do results on the field need to make a jump this season, but landing some of the big recruits coming to campus is another way to turn things around for Pry and his staff. The vital month begins this weekend in Blacksburg.
