As we approach Memorial Day Weekend this upcoming weekend, we are inching closer to a vital recruiting period for college football teams. Beginning the weekend of May 31, official visits will be taking place, and some members of the Class of 2026, Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry, and new offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery have secured a visit for a four-star quarterback.
Virginia Tech football to host four-star QB Oscar Rios
Four-star quarterback Osacr Rios from Downey, California, will make the cross-country trip on the first weekend of visitors at the end of the month to Blacksburg. He picked up an offer from former offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen before he departed for Ohio State to become the Buckeyes' offensive line coach.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Rios is the 10th-ranked quarterback in the Class of 2026, according to 247Sports, and the 22nd overall prospect in the class from California. He would like to make his commitment by the end of June.
Rios also holds offers from Oklahoma State, Arizona, UCLA, Colorado, and Kentucky, just to name a few. This is a big visit for Montgomery as the Hokies are still looking for a Class of 2026 signal caller, and they have already picked up a commitment in the class from wide receiver Carnell Warren from South Carolina.
Virginia Tech has quarterbacks Pop Watson, Kelden Ryan, and A.J. Brand on the roster and are expected to have them after this season, should none of them enter the transfer portal with Oklahoma State transfer Garrett Rangel.
Rios is a dual-threat QB and has a big arm, according to Greg Biggins of 247Sports. The Hokies have some very good quarterbacks on campus with bright futures, but securing a commitment from Rios would be a major win for Montgomery in his first season at Virginia Tech.
