Going into the 2025 season, there are a number of college football coaches entering the season on the hot seat. For some of them, the seat is very hot. Some of them are following the guy at a program that had it at the top but has recently taken a step back.
On3 released a list of Top 10 coaches who have the most to prove in 2025 and as expected, some of the names were some big names. However, if we're being honest, there was one name missing and truth be told, it was eye-opening.
Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry was not listed on an interesting list for 2025
Ari Wasserman put together the list and at the top was Florida's Billy Napier, followed Hugh Freeze at Auburn, Lincoln Riley at USC, Brent Venables at Oklahoma and Luke Fickell at Wisconsin. Missing was one coach who clearly should have been on that, Brent Pry.

Do you agree? 🤔https://t.co/YRUtOba93I pic.twitter.com/ma4xRgxDhg
I get it, Virginia Tech is not where it was under Frank Beamer in the glory days, but still, considering all the hype going into last year in Pry's third season in Blacksburg with all the retention he had and transfer portal additions, a 6-7 season was extremely disappointing. Another 6-6 regular season can't happen again.
Following the season, Pry fired three assistant coaches, including offensive line coach Ron Crook and defensive coordinator Chris Marve. Changes like that needed to be made and a lot of people were not sure they would be made, but they were, whether it came directly from Pry or from someone higher above him.
Regardless, Pry is facing a huge 2025 season. He is going into the season with a lot of eyes watching and with a team that is not as talented as last season, they have a more difficult schedule. Year 4 is a big one for Brent Pry and Blacksburg and one could argue, it's just as big as the 10 other coaches listed on Wasserman's list.
