Going into the 2025 season, there are many more questions than answers for the Virginia Tech football team. With roster turnover, coaching changes, and a tougher schedule, it is anyone’s guess how things will go for the Hokies. After a disappointing 6-7 2024 season, good luck figuring out how things will go.
As we enter April, we are less than two weeks away from the Spring Game in Blacksburg and then before you know it, fall camp will be here. Last season entering then fall, Virginia Tech was a trendy pick to be a darkhorse for the new 12-team College Football Playoff, which was a little over the top if we’re being honest. It wasn’t crazy to think of a season between 8-10 wins. Instead, it was another .500 season under head coach Brent Pry.
CBS Sports projects Virginia Tech football to have another familiar season under Brent Pry
CBS Sports college football writer Chip Patterson predicted the over/under win totals for each ACC team, and he is predicting more of the same for the Hokies in 2025 that we got in 2024 and who could blame him?
"Back-to-back games against SEC opponents makes for a tough start to a pressure-packed season for Brent Pry, who had the Hokies bowling again in 2024 but fell short of preseason expectations with a 6-7 record. Virginia Tech showed multiple times how close the Hokies were to being one of the best teams in the league, but the inability to convert those close calls against quality competition into wins was troubling. We're calling for at least one victory Virginia Tech in an underdog spot, but mostly a season of holding serve that ends in a bowl but maybe not the one that Hokies fans are hoping for given Year 3 of Kyron Drones. in Blacksburg." Pick: Under 6.5 wins (-134)
So the over/under totals are from FanDuel Sportbook, and under 6.5 is a great play, in my opinion. Virginia Tech has a brutal start to the season, with games against South Carolina and Vanderbilt. The back end of the schedule in ACC play is brutal, too. For the record, I have a 6-6 season on tap, but that could change after the spring. We’ll see.
