Virginia Tech fans are in for a nasty surprise as to who the ACC referee is against Clemson
By Scott Roche
On Sept. 27, the Virginia Tech football team appeared to pull out a Haily Mary miracle at Miami on the games final play when quarterback Kyron Drones dropped back and threw one last ball into the end zone where Da'Quan Felton came down with the ball in a sea of players. Officials ruled it a catch and the Hokies won.
However, that's not what ended up happening. The play went to review and after several minutes, the call was overturned to an incomplete pass and Miami won the game. The thing is though, after head referee Jerry Magallanes announced the overturned call, he ran off the field without giving Brent Pry an explanation as to why the call was reversed.
That left a sour taste in everyone's mouth and as expected, the conference released a statement the next day, but that didn't stop Pry from ripping the crew a few days later his weekly media availability. In the end, the call was made and overturned without any indisputable video evidence. Saturday, the Hokies will host Clemson at Lane Stadium, and Magallanes and his crew will be on the call.
Virginia Tech fan's will have a chance to let Jerry Magallanes and his crew a Blacksburg welcoming
According to Raza Umerani, Magallanes and his crew will be the officials when the Hokies host the Tigers in what is a key ACC matchup. Clemson is already bowl-eligible, but a loss at home last week to Louisville put a huge dent into their ACC Championship Game hopes. Virginia Tech is 5-4 and needs one win to become bowl eligible, but after this week, they have their second bye of the season next week before a trip to Duke on Nov. 23 before hosting Virginia Thanksgiving Weekend.
One can only hope that Magallanes and his crew get a Blacksburg welcome and fans will likely let them know how they feel at some point.
