Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin has been on a recruiting heater the last couple of weeks. After beginning to build on the defensive side of the ball, mainly along the defensive line for new coach Sean Spencer, the Hokies' first-year coach was striking it big on the offensive side of the ball for new offensive coordinator Ty Howle.

Over the last couple of weeks, Virginia Tech has added two running backs, a tight end, and two wide receivers, including one over the weekend. Virginia Tech was able to flip Class of 2027 WR Demarcus Brown from Virginia to Virginia Tech. Of course, Cavaliers fans poo-pooed the flip, but if the roles were reversed, then it would have been major breaking news. Stay consistent, Little Brother.

Anyway, eventually, Franklin and offensive line coach Matt Moore will land some players in the trenches in the Class of 2027, but it won't be landing a big fish from the Commonwealth.

Virginia Tech loses in-state recruit to the SEC

Four-star offensive lineman Elijah Hutcheson from Roanoke, Virginia, committed on late Tuesday afternoon to Florida. His Final 4 were the Gators, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Vanderbilt.

This is not a surprising decision as new Florida coach Jon Sumrall was able to land the 6-foot-6, 275-pound elite four-star talented lineman. According to Rivals, Hutcheson is the sixth-ranked offensive tackle according to Rivals300.

This decision comes on the heels of Franklin speaking on recruiting in the 757 and needing to improve on keeping in-state recruits as a whole at home. Look, he's not going to be able to keep every top recruit in Virginia, but securing Hutcheson would have been a big get over Clemson, Vanderbilt, and Florida. Regardless, the recruits in the Class of 2027 in the trenches along the offensive line will eventually be coming. Just not with Hutcheson.
