Recruiting in the Class of 2026 has not been as good as Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry or his staff would have liked it to be at this point in the cycle. They would be the first to admit it. Currently, they have less than a dozen commits and have seen some players de-commit to commit elsewhere.

One of Virginia Tech's targets in the Class of 2027 is Andrew Rogers, and the defensive edge from North Carolina dropped a major announcement. He will be making his commitment in August, but he'll do so by moving up his graduation year.

Rogers is a rising recruit in the Class of 2027, but he announced that he'll be reclassifying to the Class of 2026 while keeping his commitment date of August 22. He is the 28th-ranked edge in the country, according to 247Sports, and the ninth overall prospect in North Carolina.

Rogers has a visit to Tennessee set for late November, but he has scheduled gameday visits on weekends this fall and will be in attendance in Atlanta for the Hokies' season-opener against South Carolina, then he'll be in Blacksburg a week later when Vanderbilt visits Lane Stadium for the home opener.

It is a little bit odd that he'll be taking official visits and attending games this fall, but the Hokies should be in a position to push hard for Rogers and make him a priority. They already have an edge, Kamren Johnson from Green Run committed, along with Kamdon Gillespie, another defensive lineman, this one also from North Carolina.

The recruiting for the Class of 2027 will shift soon in the fall, but Rogers moving up a year could benefit the Hokies, and despite an early commitment date, this is one where they could make a massive splash right before the season begins.
