Things are getting crazy in the transfer portal for men's basketball, and we are just four days into it being open. Virginia Tech and head coach Mike Young have a lot of needs in the portal this cycle after losing a couple of players to graduation and so far, five players to the portal. One of the players who lost to the portal off of this year's team, freshman Ryan Jones, is already getting major interest from schools.
So far, Jones, a Florida native who picked the Hokies over the University of Florida out of high school, has reportedly heard from Marshall, UC Davis, Holy Cross, Northern Illinois, Queens, Purdue, Texas Tech, and Washington State. Jones played in just five games this year for the Hokies and is an interesting prospect who can play both inside and outside.
Virginia Tech has interest in multiple bigs
One under the radar player in the portal who is getting a lot of interest is Division 2 player Alex Steen. The 6-foot-9 center is the two-time Conference Defensive Player of the Year for Florida Southern. He was also a scoring machine, averaging 18.2 points a game, 11.5 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.1 assists.

The 6-9 225 big was one of the most productive D2 players this past season, averaging
18.2 PPG

He is generating a lot of interst of Division 1 schools, including Virginia Tech. He has heard from nearly two dozen schools, including Louisville and Georgia Tech along with the Hokies out of the ACC. He would be an ideal fit for Young next season.
The Hokies have also been in contact with Cornell big, AK Okereke. This season for the Big Red, he averaged 13.9 points a game, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while shooting 60% from the field. Other schools that are after the 6-foot-7, 235-pound California native have been contacted by Stanford and Cal from the ACC, along with a number of other schools.
