The month of October is here, and the college basketball season is right around the corner. ACC Media Days are right around the corner for the Hokies' men's coach, Mike Young, and the women's coach, Megan Duffy, in Charlotte.

Then it'll be all eyes on the upcoming season for both clubs, and in September, the ACC officially released the dates for each ACC game for both teams. For Young, there will be a cross-country trip to California in February for games against Stanford and Cal. The two matchups with Virginia will be in the middle to end of the slate. The first game will be in Charlottesville on Jan. 30, with the rematch in Blacksburg on Feb. 23.

Former Hokies guard Neoklis Avdalas and North Carolina will visit on Feb. 27 under first-year head coach Michael Malone.

As for Duffy and the women, the conference slate will begin on Dec. 6 at Duke, with games against Wake Forest at home and at Pitt on New Year's Eve before things kick into full-conference mode in January. Like the men, the first of two Commonwealth Clashes will be in Charlottesville on Jan. 10, with the rematch in Cassell Coliseum to close out the regular season on Feb. 28.

Virginia Tech announces men's and women's media day participants

Speaking of ACC Media Days, those are next week and Virginia Tech has announced who will be joining Duffy and Young in Charlotte.

Joining Duffy for the women will be returner Carleigh Wenzel and Tennessee transfer Alyssa Latham. As for the men, joining Young are key returners: Ben Hammond, Amani Hansberry, and Tyler Johnson. Virginia Tech is hoping that Johnson can stay healthy, as he was missed dearly last winter when he missed most of the ACC slate with an injury.

Former Virginia Tech men's players captains at their new school

The Kansas State men's basketball team announced its captains for the 2026-27 season, and all three have a connection to Virginia Tech. Two of the three captains are former Hokies, Jaden Schutt and Brandon Rechsteiner. Both are first-year players for the Wildcats: Schutt left Blacksburg after two seasons in the spring, and Rechsteiner joined K-State after a stop with Colorado State last season.

The final captain is Brock Vice, whose father, Vance, was a former Virginia Tech football assistant coach. No, Virginia Tech and Kansas State don't meet this season unless they get matched up in a postseason tournament in March.
