On Friday, USA Baseball released the 26-man roster for the upcoming 45th USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series in various locations across Japan beginning next Tuesday and running through July 13. Several ACC players made the roster when it was announced and Virginia Tech's ace, Brent Renfrow made it, which is not too surprising.

Renfrow will be one of six ACC arms to be making the trip to Japan, joining North Carolina's Jason DeCaro and Ryan Lynch, North Carolina State's Jacob Dudan and Ryan Marohn, and Blake Morningstar from Wake Forest. Renforw is a returning USA Baseball alum.
The numbers don't look good for this past season for Renfrow with the Hokies, but he went 3-7 as Virginia Tech's Friday night starter with a 3.89 ERA in 74 innings pitched. He fanned 84 batters and walked 34, which is a good ratio. He allowed 32 earned runs, but he kept his team in most games, mainly in the second half of the season when they once again went from looking like a lock for the NCAA Tournament to missing the 64-team field again.
He will be entering his junior season next spring in Blacksburg for John Szefc and he'll have a new pitching coach with Doug Willey joining from Xavier recently. As a freshman, Renfrow went 6-4 with. 4.92 ERA in 75 innings with a 78-32 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Szefc lost some players to the transfer portal that closed earlier this week, but getting Renfrow back for another season to headline the rotation is big for what the Hokies hope will be a better 2026 season.
Currently, Renfrow is the 32nd-ranked prospect for the 2026 MLB Draft, and a good showing in Japan coupled with a big 2026 season for the Hokies could raise his stock going into next summer's draft.
