Just hours after the Boston College women's basketball season ended on Sunday with a loss to Syracuse, the school announced a change in leadership after letting head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee go. Her contract was up, and it was not be renewed.

It doesn't come as a surprise, as the Eagles were 5-26 this year, and it is going to be another year where they miss the NCAA Tournament. However, along with Pittsburgh and SMU, BC is the third team missing the ACC Tournament this week in Duluth, Georgia.

After seven seasons in Chestnut Hill, Bernabei-McNamee is out, and according to the press release from Boston College, they will begin a national search to find the next head coach. Talia Goodman of On3 linked six names to the job, and one of them was a Megan Duffy assistant at Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech women's basketball assistant coach Jen Hoover linked to open BC position

Goodman linked current Virginia Tech assistant coach Jen Hoover to the BC opening. In her second season on Duffy's staff in Blacksburg, it would be very surprising if she left to take that position after this season.

Hoover has plenty of ACC coaching experience, as she was the head coach at Wake Forest from 2012-22 and also had stops at Virginia and California, long before the Golden Bears joined the ACC last season. She was an assistant at Kentucky for two years before joining Duffy's staff at Virginia Tech.

It would not be surprising if Hoover eventually got a head coaching position again, but it would be very surprising if she left Blacksburg for Boston College. The resources are very limited at BC compared to other schools, and it is going to take a long time to turn around the Eagles, given the fact that they lack big resources. There is a reason that Bernabei-McNamee struggled. Boston College is a job where a young up-and-coming coach can try to turn around. There are going to be better positions that open up for Hoover to consider at some point.
