Spring football practices have wrapped up for Virginia Tech under James Franklin for the first time since he was hired in Blacksburg back in November. There are several goals of all coaches during spring practices, and maybe the biggest one is getting through the spring game in April healthy. That's first and foremost.
That was not the case for the Hokies on Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium. One of their bigger pick-ups through the Transfer Portal, Troy cornerback Jaquez White, went down in the third quarter defending a pass. He stayed down. Soon after, a brace was put on his knee, and he was on crutches.
After the scrimmage, Franklin and defensive coordinator Brent Pry said they hoped it wasn't anything big, as he is projected to be their top cornerback in the fall. A couple of hours after the game, White took to X and gave Virginia Tech fans a reason to breathe easily.
Virginia Tech CB Jaquez White posts on his X account about his injury in the spring game
On Saturday night, White took to X to thank Hokies' fans for their support and that he was all good and looking forward to having a great season. That is certainly a huge sigh of relief for White, Franklin, Pry, and Virginia Tech fans.
Appreciate the love and support Hokie nation!! I’m all good!! Looking forward to having a great season!! Go hokies🦃🦃

Virginia Tech's secondary has undergone some changes, as expected with the coaching change and the Transfer Portal, with White coming in after a strong 2025 season with Troy. He earned All-Sun Belt Second Team Honors with 67 tackles and three interceptions. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Georgia native is in his junior season for the Hokies.
Fall practices don't get started for almost four months, and that is hopefully enough time for White to recover. For now, it seems a disaster was avoided with a long-term injury to White.
