On Saturday afternoon, the first spring practices under James Franklin at Virginia Tech came to a close with the spring game inside Lane Stadium. It's safe to say that this was one of the more antipacted spring games in a long, long time in Blacksburg.
There is a new roster that has been overhauled between incoming Class of 2026 recruits and the Transfer Portal. There was also key retention with some players off the 2025 roster.
Franklin is looking to put his fingerprints all over the program in his first season at Virginia Tech. He was having this day be a normal gameday in Blacksburg with the pregame walk to the stadium. As the Hokies were on the field warming up before the spring game, Franklin made his entrance to the field, and it was one with a message.
James Franklin sends message ahead of Virginia Tech spring game
According to Andy Bitter of Tech Sideline, Franklin walked out to Jayy-Z's "Public Service Announcement" blasting through the stadium speakers.

Notable line at the start: "Allow me to reintroduce myself." #Hokies
Take that however you see it, but when it comes to Franklin, there is always something behind everything he does. Fired at Penn State in October, it didn't take him long before he landed in Blacksburg. Penn State fans are still following Franklin and watching and commenting on every move he makes. Imagine if Virginia Tech fans did that with a coach after they were fired?
Anyway, there is a reason why there is a lot of hype around the program that there hasn't been in at least a decade. The program has been spinning its wheels in the mud since Frank Beamer retired, and it feels like Franklin is ready to wake up a sleeping giant.
Franklin doesn't need to reintroduce himself to Virginia Tech fans or really anyone else, but rest assured, things are trending upwards for the Hokies. He looks happy and ready to build something special in Blacksburg. September can't get here quick enough.
