Virginia Tech and Wisconsin fans want common sense when new athletic director is hired

This is a no-brainer.

It was announced earlier this year that Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock will be retiring, which puts the full-court press on to find his replacement. It shouldn't come as a surprise to many people that new football coach James Franklin is helping in the search.

Whoever gets hired as the next AD, there is going to be a ton on their plate for an athletics program that is taking the necessary steps in making sure the programs can compete with the top schools in terms of NIL and the funding needed to be successful.

There are other issues that need to be addressed, and one of them is the scheduling of non-conference games. Mainly football, the program that drives athletic programs. Back in September, it was announced that Virginia Tech and Wisconsin were going to play a home-and-home in football beginning in 2031.

However, it typical Virginia Tech fashion, they got sort of the short stick. This is something that must be fixed by the new AD.

New Virginia Tech AD has scheduling issue to address

When it was announced in September that the Hokies and Badgers were going to hook up, well, the placement of the games was not something that sat well with Hokies fans. The first matchup in 2031 is scheduled to be in Charlotte, North Carolina. Oh, and the 2032 return game is scheduled to be in Madison, on Wisconsin's campus.

How did that happen?

Again, in typical Virginia Tech fashion, that's the million-dollar question. Now, it should be noted that the games were scheduled before James Franklin was hired at Virginia Tech. Heck, he was still the coach at Penn State when it was announced, and who even knows if he'll still be in Blacksburg when it's time to play the games.

However, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin fans are coming into an agreement on one thing: the 2031 matchup needs to be played at Lane Stadium

I get it, neutral site games are good for the sport, but it's not the best for the fans. Could you imagine players on both teams being able to take in the entrances that both teams have as visiting players? Could you imagine how excited Wisconsin fans would be to watch a game inside Lane Stadium? The same goes for Hokies fans inside Camp Randall Stadium the following season.

There are a lot of things that need to be fixed with the next AD in Blacksburg, this is not near the top, but it should be on the list.
