Going into the 2026 season, there are some teams looking to turn things around in 2026. One of those teams under James Franklin is at Virginia Tech. Another one of those teams is Boston College under Bill O'Brien. The former college and pro head and assistant coach is entering what many feel is a make-or-break 2026 campaign.
The Hokies and Eagles will meet up early in the 2026 season in Chestnut Hill, Mass., when Virginia Tech opens up ACC play at Boston College on Sept. 26. That will be the conference opener for both schools after they each play three non-conference games to begin the season. When the two teams meet up, the Eagles will be missing one key player.
Boston College suffers a tough injury before the 2026 season begins
Pete Thamel of ESPN reported on Thursday that O'Brien told him that tight end Kaelan Chudzinski will likely miss the 2026 campaign with an Achilles injury. A very talented tight end from Needham, Mass., was going to be a huge piece of the Eagles' offense in 2026.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder had 24 receptions for 313 yards and four touchdowns in 2025 for Boston College. He averaged 13 yards per catch for a BC offense that struggled at times in a 2-10 season. He had touchdown receptions against Pittsburgh, UConn, Louisville, and Georgia Tech.
O'Brien and the Eagles will have fall camp to figure things out and three games before they host the Hokies. There were some question marks going into the season with the Eagles offense, and this is just going to take away one of the top weapons that they were going to have.
As far as injuries go, there is a fall camp and three games for each team to get through before the two teams meet in late September. However, Chudzinski will be a difficult loss for O'Brien and his staff to replace.
