Virginia Tech defensive report card vs. Duke

ACC. B-. . . Defensive Line

As bad as the offensive line played, the defensive line was better. They got pressure on Maalik Murphy and forced some quick throws into interceptions. Trailing by three with less than two minutes left, they forced a fumble in their own territory, but the offense was unable to move the ball. They kept Tech in the game.

B-. . . Linebackers. ACC

Keonta Jenkins led the Hokies defense in tackles with seven and Caleb Woodson had another strong night with six tackles. Keli Lawson had five tackles and Sam Brumfield was active with four tackles, including some big ones at the line of scrimmage.

. . Secondary. ACC. C

Busted coverages, explosive plays downfield and some poor tackling led to a big deficit that was too much for the Hokies to overcome. Strong did have two picks on plays where it looked like he ran the route for the Duke QB. Take away the big plays and busted coverages and it's a different game.

Nothing else to say than it's on to Virginia and attempting to become bowl-eligible. Words that not many people envisioned back over the summer.
