Coming off a 71-52 loss on Sunday night at the hands of Iowa in Charlotte in the Ally Tip-Off, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team was looking to get back on track at Cassell Coliseum Wednesday night in another non-conference game. Hosting UNC Asheville, the Hokies were able to get back on track.

Behind another balanced scoring attack with five players in double figures, Virginia Tech improved to 2-1 on the young season with an 85-62 victory over the Bulldogs. Here are two truths and la ie following the win.

Truth: Carleigh Wenzel has made a big improvement

Last season Carleigh Wenzel got some time in the rotation under former coach Kenny Brooks and after he left for Kentucky, she decided to stay at Virginia Tech and play for Megan Duffy. She has slid into the starting point guard role and against the Bulldogs, she poured in a career-high 25 points, and grabbed eight rebounds, and had three steals after a team-high 14 points against the Hawkeyes.

She is quicker this season, she is confident shooting the 3-pointer and she sees the floor well. She uses her speed to push the tempo and find her teammates. She can put the ball down on the floor and attack the basket and finish through contact. She looks like a different player than she did last season.

Truth: Rose Micheaux is becoming a big inside presence

You are never going to replace Elizabeth Kitley. However, Rose Micheaux, another player who decided to remain at Virginia Tech after Brooks left, has had a very good start to the season on the inside. Against UNC Wilmington, she had 14 points and five rebounds, she had 12 points and seven rebounds against Iowa.

Against UNC Asheville, she had 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting, establishing her presence inside. She only had four rebounds, but she was active on both ends of the floor and can be a big contributor this season for Duffy.

Lie: These games don't help the Hokies

All schools play these non-conference games early in the season and these are valuable games this season for Duffy and her team. With a lot of roster turnover and a new system, these are vital games this month for Virginia Tech before things pick up in December and January with ACC play. Every game against another team is a game to improve for the Hokies.
