There has been a lot of roster turnover for the Virginia Tech women's basketball team since their season came to an end in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in March at the hands of Oregon in Texas.
After getting a ton of retention after his first season in Blacksburg, second-year coach Megan Duffy has had a much different outcome this portal cycle. Gone is point guard Mackenzie Nelson, who ended up at Clemson, and forward Carys Baker, who is at Louisville. Backup Kayl Petersen also hit the portal and committed to Marquette.
Duffy has picked up a couple of commitments in the portal from the University of Tennessee. Alyssa Latham and Lauren Hurst are joining the Hokies along with Carleigh Wenzel, who is also returning. There are more additions needed by Duffy, and she picked one up on Friday morning with a Division 2 transfer.
Division 2 transfer Natalee Goff commits to Megan Duffy and Virginia Tech
It's not every day that a player makes the jump from Division 2 to Division 1, but that is the case for sophomore guard Natalee Goff. The 5-foot-11 Georgia native committed to Virginia Tech, adding to a growing portal class.

This is an interesting pick-up for Duffy. Goff played at Emmanuel University in Georgia, and this past season, she averaged 14.9 points and 7.5 rebounds a game, while shooting 41% from the field and 31% from behind the arc. Goff hit double-figures in her final 12 games and exceeded the 20-point plateau eight times, and even had one 30-point game.
What her role for the Hokeis is remains to be seen, but you have to figure with her ability to score, Duffy and her staff are hoping that she can translate her game to the Division 1 level and the ACC. This could be an underrated pickup for Virginia Tech.
