Surprising ACC coach becoming Michigan's top candidate to replace Sherrone Moore

It has been nearly two weeks since the University of Michigan fired head football coach Sherrone Moore with cause. Now, what has already been a crazy coaching cycle gets even crazier with arguably the best job opening up after all the other positions were filled.

It is going to be hard for Michigan to get their ideal candidate, but there could be some movement soon. According to Austin Meek of The Athletic, interim coach Biff Poggi, who will lead the Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Eve at 3 p.m. against Texas, has interviewed multiple times for the position full-time. He also made some interesting comments about the program and what's going on behind closed doors. Not pretty.

According to Meek, Poggi said that athletic director Warde Manuel told the team that he hopes to hire a coach between Christmas and the Citrus Bowl. Rumors are swirling, and according to Michigan insider Sam Webb of 247Sports, Louisville coach Jeff Brohm is emerging as the top candidate.

According to Webb, Brohm, and Michigan recently spoke about the opening and that an answer could come shortly. Why shortly? Louisville plays Toledo in the Boca Raton Bowl on Tuesday afternoon, and things could move quickly after the game if Brohm is going to go to Ann Arbor.

Brohm would be a good hire if Michigan could close the deal, considering how late into the coaching search they are. The Transfer Portal opens early next month, and that will play a big role in Brohm, or whoever will be the next head coach, in terms of building the roster for next season and beyond. Brohm has had a ton of success at Louisville and Purdue, but he has also had a lot of success with quarterbacks, making him a good fit with Bryce Underwood.
