It appears that the college football coaching carousel is never going to slow down. In what was one of the wildest fall seasons in terms of coaches being hired and fired at other schools, one more domino fell on late Wednesday afternoon.
Michigan fired coach Sherrone Moore with cause after an investigation into what the school called "an inappropriate relationship with a staff member". It creates another big-time opening just when we all thought that things were slowing down.
It will be interesting to see who Michigan targets for the opening, as there are sure to be a number of names linked to the position. There were three recruits in the Class of 2026 from Virginia who signed with the Wolverines. Michigan also flipped Virginia Tech recruit Adrian Hamilton last week. Could he be back in play if he asks for a release with the coaching change? Time will tell.
Virginia Tech women's basketball rebounds from loss to Duke
After opening ACC play with a frustrating loss at home on Sunday afternoon to open ACC play, the Hokies women's basketball team was looking to bounce back at home on Wednesday night in a non-conference game against Presbyterian.
Samyha Suffren scored a game-high 17 points off the bench for Virginia Tech in their 92-36 win over the Blue Hose. Lelia Wells and Kilah Freelon each had 13 points for the Hokies, and Aniya Trent added nine off the bench. East Tennessee State will visit on Sunday for another non-conference game for the 7-3 Hokies.
Virginia Tech men's basketball hosts Western Carolina
Mike Young and his Hokies will return to the court on Thursday night at Cassell Coliseum when they host Western Carolina in another non-conference game. Virginia Tech is 8-2 after a big win over George Mason last Saturday at home, knocking the Patriots from the ranks of the unbeaten.
Jaden Schutt led the Hokies against George Mason with 18 points, all on 3-pointers, and this is a game that Virginia Tech can't lose if they have visions of making the NCAA Tournament in March. They will again be without Tobi Lawal.
