This is a rough year for A.C.C. coaches. The consensus media pick to win the conference ended up with two total wins. The Florida State Seminoles won 2 games in this year’s season. This club was picked to not only win the conference, they were picked to make a run in the college football playoff. None of that happened.
The Florida State Seminoles were the worst team in the entire A.C.C. The same team that tried to sue their way out of the league was embarrassed in 2024. Head coach, Mike Norvell, was concerned about his future in Tallahassee. He made an almost unprecedented decision. He started to give back. Keep this in mind: He was scheduled to make almost 10 million dollars this season. This is more than double that of Brent Pry.
There a some folks out there who would argue this 2024 Hokies team way underperformed. I kind of see it a bit differently. For the past few seasons, there seems to be less talent on the roster compared to other A.C.C. schools. Is that because of poor recruiting or lack of funds? It’s always easy to spend somebody else’s money, but I would be willing to help the cause. If you think of it in terms of an investment, the dividends could be huge for Virginia Tech.
More than likely, I don’t see Brent Pry giving back any portion of his salary, but we need to look at overall talent acquisition as a whole. There has to be a marriage of NIL management as well as old-fashioned recruiting.
The general consensus is that we have done a better job recruiting in-state talent. Time will tell if this will translate to more wins in 2025.
