When it comes to the ACC and football traditions before games, there are some that rank among the best in college football. Some entrances make people get goosebumps on Saturday afternoons or nights, as well as during home weeknight games.
All fanbases think that theirs is the best the conference has to offer, but that's not always the case. Here are the Top 5 traditions in the ACC in the fall.
5. Miami (The Smoke Entrance)
Going back to the Orange Bowl days, the Miami Hurricanes use a "smoke entrance" when they take the field, going back over half a century. It was a big tradition back in Miami's glory days of the 80's and 90's. It is something that TV broadcasts never miss showing, especially with the big home games down in South Florida.
4. Georgia Tech (The Ramblin' Wreck)
When the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets enter the field at Bobby Dodd Stadium, they are led out by a Ford Model A Sports Coupe, which goes back nearly a whole century. The Yellow Jacket mascot is usually in the back of the car as the football team follows, coming on the field in Atlanta. It might not seem like much, but it's one tradition that often flys under-the-radar around college football.
3. Clemson (Rubbing the Rock)
One of the more interesting ones that gets a lot of attention during Saturday night home games, or home games in general, is Clemson's Rubbing the Rock. Not only are the players touching Howard's Rock as they begin their trip down the hill in Death Valley and onto the field led by head coach Dabo Swinney, but what about the bus ride around the stadium to the rock? Swinney running down the hill and beating most of his team down the hill is a sight that a lot of fans won't soon forget.
2. Florida State (The Tomahawk Chop)
One tradition that never gets old is the Tomahawk Chop at FSU. Chief Osceola riding Renegade comes on the field with Seminole fans chanting and planting a flag at midfield ahead of kickoff. This isn't one of the longer traditions, as it started in 1984 before a home game against Auburn. It is one of the stronger traditions to date across college football.
1. Virginia Tech (Enter Sandman)
Was there ever a doubt? Did you think that Enter Sandman would end up anywhere else? There is nothing better on a fall day or night, during the week or on the weekend, than the Hokies running out of the tunnel at Lane Stadium to Metallica's Enter Sandman blasting and fans jumping up and down. It is the top entrance across college football. It's not close in the ACC.
