For their first game of the season, the Virginia Tech football team gets the noon slot on ESPN at Vanderbilt. The network will not be sending their top team to the game, as expected as it’s one of the big games of the weekend, but they will be getting a veteran play-by-play announcer.

Roy Philpott will handle the play-by-play duties in Nashville with Sam Acho the analyst and Taylor Davis the sideline reporter. Philpott is an ESPN veteran play-by-play caller as he has nearly a dozen years calling college baseball, football, and basketball games for the network.

Acho begins his fourth season with ESPN after playing at the University of Texas and then playing linebacker in the NFL. He should have a lot to say about the Hokies that have brought back and added some key pieces. Acho was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals and played there for four years before signing with the Chicago Bears. He finished his career with stops with the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before going to ESPN.

Davis is a seasoned sideline reporter for ESPN as she begins another season of coverage of college football. She will handle interview duties with Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry and Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea.

Aside from ESPN, the game will be broadcast on the radio on the Virginia Tech Sports Network with Bill Roth handling the play-by-play and back again is Mike Burnop with Zach Mackey handling the coverage from the sideline.

Aside from ESPN, the game will be available on ESPN.com and the ESPN app and FuboTV.
