Virginia Tech Women's Basketball: Recent bracketology shows just how strong the ACC is
The most recent ESPN bracketology for women's basketball shows just how strong and tough the ACC is going to be in 2023-24 for Virginia Tech.

Going into the 2023-24 women’s college basketball season, if there’s one thing that Virginia Tech head coach Kenny Brooks knew, it’s how tough the ACC is going to be nightly for his team. It’s been like that for a while and there are no signs that it’s going to slow down anytime soon.
The recent 2024 Women’s Bracketology for ESPN proves that even further.
ESPN Women’s Bracketology has a large amount of ACC teams in it
In the latest ESPN Women's Basketball Bracketology, Virginia Tech was one of 10 ACC teams in the field, the most of any conference. The Hokies were a No. 5 seed in the latest projections.
Other ACC teams include Syracuse, Miami, North Carolina State, Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Duke. Charlie Creme, who is the women’s bracketologist, has nine ACC teams locked into the field with Duke the last team in and Virginia the first team out. There is the potential for 11 ACC teams, which would be nuts.
The Hokies are off until Sunday night when they travel to Rutgers for a 5:30 p.m. game and are currently 7-2 with their two losses being to Iowa and LSU, both Top 10 teams. If there is one thing that Brooks needs to get before ACC play begins on New Year’s Eve at home against Pittsburgh, it’s depth behind his starting five.
There is no doubt that their starting five is one of the tops in the country, but slowly, the Hokies have been building depth with some of their young players. Freshman Clara Strack has been getting better and better each night on the inside, and freshman guard Carleigh Wenzel has been very good defensively and contributing more offensively. In Virginia Tech’s last two games, another freshman, Carys Baker, has been shooting the ball well and is gaining more and more confidence.
Just two non-conference games are remaining, Rutgers and at home against William & Mary on Dec. 21 before conference play begins, and if there’s one thing we know from the latest bracketology, it’s going to be a tough night each night for the Hokies.
