Virginia Tech women can clinch ACC regular season title outright against Notre Dame
By Scott Roche
Sunday afternoon, the fifth-ranked Virginia Tech women’s basketball team clinched at least a tie for the ACC regular season title with a 74-62 victory over North Carolina at Cassell Coliseum. Following that win, the Hokies rose to No. 5 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll with two games remaining before the ACC Tournament begins next week.
Thursday night, the Hokies have an opportunity to stake claim to the ACC Conference title all to themselves with a win at No. 17 Notre Dame.
Virginia Tech at Notre Dame, How to Watch, Preview
This game will begin at 7 o’clock and be broadcast on ESPN and streamed on FuboTV.
So far this season, Kenny Brooks and his team have passed every test on the road in ACC play. They have wins on the road over ranked ACC foes Syracuse, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Louisville. They have a big opportunity to post another Top 25 road win and strengthen their chance at improving their seed for the NCAA Tournament with a win over the Irish.
Notre Dame is led by Hannah Hidalgo who scored 19 points in Sunday’s win over Boston College. She leads the Irish with 23 points a game this season and 5.5 assists.
Despite having the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament already locked up, don’t expect the Hokies to slow down. They have a chance to claim the ACC regular season title outright and keep improving their NCAA Tournament seed. Expect Notre Dame to mix things up defensively against Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore to try and slow them down.
Notre Dame is currently tied for third place in the ACC standings and is in s fight for one of the three remaining double-byes in the ACC Tournament. With the way the conference is this season, an extra day off would benefit every team that is still in the running for it.
