The most anticipated non-conference football game on the 2024 schedule for Virginia Tech now has the time and TV channel locked in. For the second straight year, the Hokies are playing their four non-conference games before they dive into ACC play on Sept. 27 at Miami.

Prior to the season, the toughest game on paper in the non-conference for Brent Pry's team was on Sept. 21 when Rutgers visits Blacksburg, but that's what we get for overlooking the season-opener at Vanderbilt on Aug. 31 that the Hokies lost in overtime, 34-27. Now after beating Marshall and playing at Old Dominion this upcoming weekend, the Hokies will then host Rutgers.

Time and TV channel for Virginia Tech vs. Rutgers announced

We are still 12 days away from the Scarlet Knights coming to Blacksburg, but when they do, it was announced Monday that the game will start at 3:30 p.m. and be broadcast on the ACC Network. Last season the two teams played in New Jersey with Rutgers winning and it was broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

Rutgers will be coming into the game off a bye this upcoming weekend and sitting at 2-0, while the Hokies are 1-1 and have a difficult game this weekend at Old Dominion. Before Rutgers, Tech will shift its focus to the Monarchs who will be looking for a second win in two years at home over Virginia Tech after beating them in 2022.

Things have not gone as planned through the first two weeks of the season for the Hokies as a combination of two slow starts in the first half where the offense has put up a combined six points and while they were able to hold off Marshall this past weekend, their rally against Vanderbilt came up short two weeks ago. It's on to Old Dominion this week.
