After picking up their first win of the 2024 season at home last weekend against Marshall, the Virginia Tech football team has a very tricky non-conference game this weekend in Norfolk at Old Dominion. In what should be a win, this has the writing on the wall of a 60-minute battle.

If there is one thing that we have learned through the first two weeks of the season with Virginia Tech is that it has played two very slow opening halves before playing more like the team we expected it to be in the second half of both games against Vanderbilt and Marshall. It would be in the best interest of the Hokies to put together a good first half against a Monarchs team looking to beat them for the second time in three years at home.

As we inch closer to the game, here is your guide for the matchup.

Virginia Tech vs. Old Dominion History

Last season, the Hokies opened the season at home with a win over ODU with transfer Ali Jennings catching two touchdown passes against his former team. The season before, Old Dominion beat Virginia Tech in Norfolk, and for the all-time series, the Hokies lead 3-2.

I know that Virginia Tech fans must be thinking, 'What could go wrong at Old Dominion this weekend?' Well, a lot as Virginia Tech has a lot more to lose than Old Dominion does and if there was ever a time when the Hokies needed to come up big in Norfolk, this is the season.
