A couple of weeks ago, one look at the Virginia Tech men’s basketball schedule and the regular season final against Notre Dame looked like just another game with the Hokies falling into the bottom half of the ACC standings. Fast forward two wins later and all of a sudden the game is a big one for the Hokies and head coach Mike Young.

Not only will Virginia Tech look to get the Irish back for beating them last month in South Bend, Indiana, but they will also be looking to avoid playing on the first day of the ACC Tournament next week and bye into the second day. A Hokies win locks them into the 8-9 game next Wednesday in Washington D.C. and avoids them from playing on opening day at Capital One Arena. That would be huge if they have visions of putting a run together in the tournament.

Virginia Tech vs. Notre Dame, How to Watch, Preview

12-18 (7-12 ACC). March 9. ACC. 447. . 443. ESPNU. 17-13 (9-10 ACC). 2:30 p.m.

This game will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET and broadcast on ESPNU and streamed on FuboTV.

Virginia Tech comes into the game off back-to-back 80-point games and wins over Wake Forest and Louisville. After starting slow against the Demon Deacons last Saturday night, the Hokies closed a double-digit deficit to nine points at halftime and they pulled away in the second half with 50 points to stun Wake Forest. Against Louisville, a 49-point first half paved the way for a 16-point victory.

In the first matchup in February, the Hokies jumped out to a 39-35 halftime lead, but offensively and defensively they fell apart in the second half and lost 74-66. The Irish have been getting good performances from Marcus Burton and Braeden Shrewsberry this season and they both played a big part in Notre Dame’s win last month. Burton had 16 points against the Hokies and Shrewsberry added 12.

This is also the final regular season home game for the Virginia Tech seniors and they would love nothing more than to send them out with a win.
