February has been a not-too-kind month for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team. The Hokies have dropped four out of their six games, but Saturday night’s loss at Pittsburgh, 79-64, dropped them to 15-12 overall and 7-9 in the ACC.

Unless they pick up some surprising wins over their final four games, they are going to end up having to play on the opening day of the ACC Tournament in Washington, D.C. in two weeks. Their first of four ACC games to close out the regular season is Tuesday night at Syracuse against an Orange team that still has a path to the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia Tech at Syracuse, How to Watch, Preview

Feb. 27. ACC. 18-10 (9-8 ACC). 445. . 15-12 (7-9 ACC). 447. ESPNU. 7:00 p.m.

This game will begin at 7 o’clock and be broadcast on ESPNU and streamed on FuboTV.

The struggles on the road for Mike Young’s team have been noted this season and are one of the reasons why they’ll fall short of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year unless they win the ACC Tournament next month. After a trip to Western New York, the Hokies will have one more game remaining away from Blacksburg with a trip to Louisville on March 5. Despite being at the bottom of the conference standings, that will not be an easy game for the Hokies.

Syracuse is 18-10 overall and 9-8 in the ACC and is coming off a win at home over Notre Dame on Saturday. The Orange have wins this month over North Carolina at home and on the road at North Carolina State. There is a loss at Georgia Tech mixed in between, but they have an opportunity to run the table and finish with 12 ACC wins and 21 overall before the conference tournament. They close with road games at Louisville and Clemson.

Guard Judah Mintz leads Syracuse at 18 points a game for a team that is averaging 76 points a game this season.

As I wrote ahead of the Pittsburgh game on Saturday until the Hokies prove that they can win away from Blacksburg, look for Syracuse to continue to make a push for the NCAA Tournament with a win over Virginia Tech.
