If there has been one issue for the Virginia Tech softball team recently, it's been their inability to adjust to opposing pitchers. Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Hokies were able to make adjustments and it paid off.

After going scoreless through the order one time, Virginia Tech got better at-bats in the second time and more through the order and was able to chip away with five runs on 12 hits for a 5-1 win over San Diego State to stay in the winner's bracket. The Hokies will return to the diamond in the Los Angeles Regional on Saturday at 5 p.m. against UCLA.

Virginia Tech finally broke through in the bottom of the third inning after loading the bases with nobody out and scored when Cameron Fagan had a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Kylie Aldridge had an RBI single, and Annika Rohs had an RBI groundout for a 3-0 lead.

Cori McMillan added an RBI double in the fifth and after the Aztecs scored in the top of the sixth, Addy Greene added an RBI single for a 5-1 lead.

While the Hokies were scoring off San Diego State pitchers, Emma Lemley was very good in the circle for Virginia Tech. Picking her 50th career win, Lemley allowed just three hits and struck out six while facing just 24 batters.
