Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones had one of his trademark games Saturday night at Old Dominion in a 37-17 victory. Like he did multiple times last season, the Baylor transfer rushed for a team-high 117 yards while throwing for 176 and a touchdown. He was the duel-threat quarterback the Hokies were waiting to see in 2024.

He put it all together for one night hurting the Monarchs with his arm and legs. After scoring a second-quarter touchdown on a Tush Push from the 1-yard line, he began the second half with star running back Bhayshul Tuten out for a bit. When the North Carolina A&T transfer came back into the game, offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen continued to call each player's number.

In the third quarter, Drones ripped off a 53-yard run deep into Old Dominion territory. As he broke free into the Monarchs' secondary, he lowered his shoulder and ran over not one, but two defenders before going out of bounds.

After the game, Drones was asked about that run and being running over those two cornerbacks.

Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones sends message to future cornerbacks

After the game, Drones spoke about trucking the two cornerbacks from Old Dominion who tried to tackle him high and found out the hard way that it was not going to work.

"I ain't really worried about a corner coming to tackle me. If they try to tackle me high, then that's on him,'' Drones said.

Clearly, he's not worried. At all. He trucked the two Monarchs defenders and going forward, trying to bring down the 6-foot-3, 234-pound signal caller high will not work. The writing was on the wall last season when Drones broke through tackles of opposing defenses and picked several yards after first contact. When he gets going, it's nearly impossible to bring him down the way the ODU cornerbacks tried, and note to future opponents, don't try it or you too will get trucked.
