The ACC Preseason Football Poll for the 2024 season was released Wednesday and to no surprise, Florida State was ranked No. 1 and picked to win the conference. Last season the Seminoles ran the table during the regular season and beat Louisville in the Championship Game to finish at 13-0, but still was left out of the four-team College Football Playoff.

Last season Florida State rolled over Virginia Tech, 39-17, on Oct. 7 to drop the Hokies to 2-4. The game was played at Bobby Bowden Stadium at Doak Campbell Field in Tallahassee. Tech fell behind the talented Seminoles and cut the deficit to 22-17 in the third quarter when Bhayshul Tuten returned the second-half opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. However, that would be as close as the Hokies would get before FSU pulled away for the victory.

That Saturday afternoon in Florida, the announced attendance was 79,560, but according to Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones, it didn't sound like nearly 80,000 people at the game.

Kyron Drones takes sublte shot at Florida State fans

Drones went on Shedeur Sanders' 2Legendary podcast, the very first episode, and discussed the different atmospheres in the ACC and to nobody's surprise, he put Virginia Tech's "Enter Sandman" at the top of the list, but it was what he said about Florida State that raised some eyebrows.

"I feel like that was overhyped. I feel like it goes crazy for a night game. That game was overhyped though. Not (as loud as Louisville) though."

For the record, again, the Hokies game at FSU last season was an afternoon game, as was Virginia Tech's trip to Louisville a month later in early November. He said that after Lane Stadium, "Have to be Louisville. It’s just so loud. Stadium’s small, that’s why it was so loud.''

That day the Hokies were hit with several pre-snap penalties on offense in a 34-3 loss to the Cardinals in a game that had ACC Championship Game hopes riding on it for both teams. For the record, in the recently released EA Sports College Football 25 Game, Florida State was ranked ninth for the Top 25 toughest places to play while Lane Stadium was No. 17 and Louisville was, well, not ranked.
