In this edition of Virginia Tech News, things could get interesting with the transfer portal after an ACC head coach leaves for the NFL, softball begins their season in just seven days and more.

Boston College football players have 30 days to enter the transfer portal

Believe it or not, but here we go again with the football transfer portal. In a stunning move Wednesday night, Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley left the Eagles to become the defensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers. 

With his decision to leave Chestnut Hill, Boston College players will have 30 days to enter the transfer portal if they choose to do so. Hokies fans should watch to see if any players enter the portal that could help at Virginia Tech as there are still needs that could be addressed. Tech will host BC on Oct. 17, a Thursday night next fall.

Softball season opener a week away

Now that the calendar has turned to February, that means that the Virginia Tech softball team plays games this month. They open the season in seven days. The Hokies will be at Auburn on Feb. 9 for a pair of games against Illinois at 11 a.m. and then the Tigers at 2 p.m. One day later they will play Belmont at 11 a.m. and Auburn again at 2, before closing out the weekend with another game vs. Illinois at noon.

Men's basketball to travel to Miami

The Hokies men's basketball team will return to the floor Saturday at noon in South Florida against Miami in what is a must-win for both teams in terms of the NCAA Tournament.

Wrestling travels to Charlottesville Friday

The Virginia Tech wrestling team, which was ranked 13th in the latest NWCA poll this week, will travel to Charlottesville Friday night to take on the Cavaliers in the mat version of the Commonwealth Clash.
